Nuance Communications announced that Avaya has selected
speech solutions from Nuance to enhance the employee productivity and
collaboration options of its unified communications offering.
As part of the agreement, Nuance speech recognition will
ship as a standard component of Avaya Modular Messaging 4.0, with the inclusion
of Avaya one-X Speech. Avaya one-X Speech is a “hands-free” user interface
enabling users to access, interact with and manage email and voice mail, tasks
and calendaring, and calling and conferencing capabilities – all via speech
commands from any telephone.
“Avaya Unified Communications gives workers the right tool
for the right job, so the user interface has to be easy-to-use and provide
seamless access,” said Mary Dunlop, vice president, Unified Communications
Product Management. “Nuance’s speech recognition technologies are acutely
attuned to the natural way of speaking, which allows mobile workers comfortably
interact with communications and productivity tools even when they can’t get
connected by any other means.”
“We’ve worked with Avaya for quite some time to develop a
flexible, powerful speech solution to improve responsiveness and enable workers
to be effective anywhere,” said Michael Thompson, general manager, mobile
search, messaging and handsets, Nuance. “Simple and intuitive speech commands
create a natural user interface so that employees will spend less time managing
communications and more time communicating.”
