Bytemobile announced the new Media Optimization application of its Media Fidelity Suite. This application enables operators to manage video traffic on mobile broadband networks, which is increasing rapidly due to consumers' growing appetite for rich multimedia content.

The Media Optimization solution reduces video traffic, allowing operators to increase their network's available bandwidth to service additional users and traffic. In addition, it automatically adjusts the quality of the video to match the bandwidth available in the network, minimizing stalls even when the network is most congested. This eliminates a major frustration of users consuming video over mobile networks and provides a highly enhanced multimedia experience. The server-based application does not require client software and is fully interoperable with popular Adobe Flash Players.

Today wireless laptop connectivity generates the majority of network data traffic, with figures as high as 90% reported on 3G networks. With the widespread availability of multimedia content on the web and the rising popularity of video-sharing sites such as YouTube, consumers are increasingly accessing video downloads and multimedia streams. In some networks, video has already surpassed web browsing as the dominant form of data traffic.

Bytemobile's Media Optimization solution is fully configurable and provides operators with flexible control of their network resources. The application's fixed and dynamic video reduction capabilities can be strategically applied to subscribers based on rate plan, usage profile, video source, time and date, or any other identifying parameter. The option of modulating the quality of media downloads according to any of these identifiers enables operators to differentiate service levels between premium plans and standard plans and usage during peak hours and off-peak hours. Operators can also identify and manage users exceeding their usage quota or otherwise violating fair-use policies, thereby helping to control network abuse.
