Nearly 1 in 3 Cellphones Worldwide Are Nokia Phones, Figures Show

The previous quarter it was 28.9%, and this last quarter it was 29.7%. How long can it be before Nokia's price-cutting tactics see its global market share climb to 33.3% or more - how long till once again 1 in 3 cellphones used anywhere on earth is a Nokia phone? (This time last year its worldwide market share was 35.6% share.)

This was the question raised by the latest global cellphone sales report from Gartner, which showed how 156.4 million units overall were sold in the second quarter, a 35% increase on second quarter sales for 2003.

The April-to-June period was the best second quarter on record, said Ben Wood, a Gartner analyst in London.
