New QUALCOMM Chipsets for Multimedia Wireless Devices

New QUALCOMM Chipsets for Multimedia Wireless Devices

(May 22, 2003) - QUALCOMM is introducing the 7000 family of dual-Central Processing Unit (CPU) single chip solutions, to address the need for more cost-effective, high-performance solutions that drive third-generation (3G) multimedia handsets for consumers and high data rate devices for enterprise customers. In the MSM7000 family, QUALCOMM has brought together its core strengths in wireless chipset design; modem, CPU, and Digital Signal Processor (DSP) expertise; system software; and highly integrated applications engines for future 3G wireless products. Samples of chipsets in this series are expected to ship in 2004.

QUALCOMM also announced the MSM6275 radioOne Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipset and system software, a high-performance solution delivering High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) as well as roaming on GSM and GPRS systems. The MSM6275 chipset provides increased processing power and enhanced video and graphics performance at lower current consumption. The MSM6275 solution will enable multimedia-rich WCDMA handsets with extended time for MP3 file playback, streaming video and video telephony. It is expected to ship in 2004.

QUALCOMM'S new CSM6700 Cell Site Modem (CSM) solution and the MSM6700 Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipset and system software support integrated voice and simultaneous high-speed packet data. The CSM6700 solution for infrastructure equipment will support 1xEV-DV including CDMA2000 Revisions C and D. The MSM6700 solution supports CDMA2000 through Revision D and 1xEV-DO, and enables applications processing for enhanced multimedia functionality, such as video, graphics, camera, camcorder and gaming features in a single integrated device. Samples of these solutions are expected to ship in 2004.

QUALCOMM'S MSM6025 radioOne Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipset and system software is a cost-effective solution to drive CDMA2000 1X adoption in new markets worldwide. The MSM6025 solution affords immediate opportunity for increased revenues from mainstream consumers with support of entry-level data services in addition to voice service. Samples of the MSM6025 chipset are expected to ship in the third quarter of 2003.

All solutions in the MSM6000 chipset family are based on radioOne Zero Intermediate Frequency (ZIF) architecture.
