SAN FRANCISCO, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- PlayFirst, a leading publisher of casual games, today announced that it has opened access to its popular game development framework, Playground SDK(TM), to accelerate the market growth of casual games. Playground SDK is designed to simplify the game creation process and maximize the market success of a casual game. Created by casual game developers for casual game developers, the framework has already been used to create over a dozen popular casual games, including the hit sequels in the Diner Dash(TM) series. Previously available to developers working exclusively with PlayFirst, Playground is now available to developers worldwide* at http://developer.playfirst.com/ .

Developers: Earn Cash with Developer Dash

While the casual games industry continues to grow at an explosive rate, many independent developers are just starting out, deciding to leave a big corporate job, or worrying about finances while trying to design that next big hit. In response to these challenges, PlayFirst is launching Developer Dash, a new developer funding program that will distribute up to $100,000 in cash to encourage independent developers to create new and innovative games.

PlayFirst may choose one, two, ten or hundreds of games to qualify for Developer Dash funds. There is also absolutely no requirement for developers to publish or distribute their game with PlayFirst to participate in the program. To be eligible, developers must simply download Playground SDK and submit a game prototype that meets the following criteria:

o Built in Playground SDK o Commercially viable casual game (i.e., no offensive themes, gratuitous violence) o Submitted to PlayFirst in 2007
