Mobile Giving Alliance Formed to Maximize Mobile’s Benefits for Charitable Organizations

In an effort to maximize the impact of mobile technology in the charitable sector, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, World Vision, U.S. Fund for UNICEF and United Way Worldwide today launched a coalition initiative called the Mobile Giving Alliance. The Mobile Giving Alliance will be supported by the Mobile Giving Foundation (MGF) in cooperation with the BBB Wise Giving Alliance and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

Operating as a nonprofit-led initiative designed to improve access, functionality and the long-term sustainability of mobile technology for the charitable sector, the Mobile Giving Alliance aims to continue to ensure donor trust and NPO accountability as mobile solutions for social good evolve.

“As the pioneer of mobile giving, the MGF is appreciative of the continuing support to philanthropy provided by wireless operators and looks forward to other mobile platform providers stepping up to ensure that mobile policies evolve to meet the needs of their customers and the charitable sector,” said Jim Manis, Founder and CEO of the Mobile Giving Foundation.

“Used by virtually every adult in our society, mobile technology can have a tremendous impact on enhancing the economic and organizational capabilities of charitable groups, and now represents one of the primary means by which our supporters engage in the cause to fight cancer,” said John R. Seffrin, CEO of the American Cancer Society.

The Mobile Giving Alliance will operate under the 501 C3 umbrella of the Mobile Giving Foundation. It will focus on expanding and improving access to, and functionality and efficiency of, mobile networks and platforms for charitable organizations.

“Through the collaborative effort amongst the Mobile Giving Alliance founding partners, the nonprofit sector can have a strong voice in determining how mobile develops to best meet the needs of mission awareness, donor acquisition, engagement, and payments,” said John Graham, Chair of the Mobile Giving Foundation and CEO of the ASAE.

“As we look to new ways to reach donors it is vital that charities be part of the development, not only to assure that they are effective and efficient but also safe and secure. This new alliance aims to achieve these objectives,” said Art Taylor, president and CEO of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance.

“We see mobile as the future of digital philanthropy and look forward to working with wireless operators and mobile platforms to create the best experience for people who want to support UNICEF’s lifesaving work for children,” said José Carbonell, senior vice president of marketing and communications at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

About BBB Mobile Giving Foundation

The Mobile Giving Foundation was founded in 2007 to create a “mobile giving channel” that empowers non-profit organizations and donors and provides mobile solutions for social good. Working with North America’s top mobile carriers, the Foundation enables the mobile channel for charitable giving by providing the organizational layer, operational guidelines and technical infrastructure for non-profit organizations and donors to use the incredible power and convenience of mobile technology. The Foundation works with the BBB Wise Giving Alliance to grow the mobile-giving channel, strengthen mobile-giving industry standards and accountability, assure donor confidence, and reinforce nonprofit acceptance of the mobile-giving medium. When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
