Wireless Broadband Alliance vereinigt Branchen-Akteure zur Definition von Carrier Wi-Fi

Die Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), die Branchenvereinigung zur Förderung von WLAN-Netzen der nächsten Generation, hat heute eine umfassende Definition von Carrier Wi-Fi vorgestellt, um eine engere Abstimmung mit dem Mobilfunknetz weiter zu forcieren. Carrier Wi-Fi wird von den Betreibern als wichtiger Schritt gesehen, um das WLAN-Nutzererlebnis zu verbessern, da es zunehmend zur Entlastung der Mobilfunknetze und für die Bereitstellung neuer Dienste eingesetzt wird. Die WBA hat die Voraussetzungen definiert, die ein Carrier Wi-Fi-Netz benötigt, um ein konsistentes Nutzererlebnis zu gewährleisten, und darüber hinaus über voll integrierte, durchgängige Netzfunktionen zu verfügen sowie eine fortschrittliche Netzverwaltung zu ermöglichen

Carrier Wi-Fi ist derzeit in der Branche in aller Munde. Der Begriff ist jedoch unter Betreibern, Herstellern und Branchenverbänden nicht einheitlich definiert. Eine neue Reihe von Richtlinien, die von der WBA eingeführt und veröffentlicht wurden, soll der gesamten Branche eine einheitliche Vorstellung über Carrier Wi-Fi vermitteln, die Funktionsanforderungen des Netzes detailliert bestimmen, und den heutigen Stand der Dinge analysieren und erörtern, welche Aufgaben noch erledigt werden müssen.

Die WBA hat fast 20 der weltweit größten Betreiber und Hersteller zusammengebracht, um an einer Definition einer gemeinsamen Vorstellung von Carrier Wi-Fi zu arbeiten. Dazu zählen: Accuris Networks, AT&T, BSG Wireless, BSkyB, BT, CableLabs, China Mobile, Cisco, Comcast, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel Corporation, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, Qualcomm, Ruckus Wireless, SK Telecom, Time Warner Cable und Towerstream. Ferner hat die WBA erste Konsultationen mit zahlreichen Branchenverbänden wie 3GPP, Broadband Forum, GSMA, NGMN und der Wi-Fi Alliance® begonnen.

Gemäß WBA-Richtlinien sind die folgenden standardisierten Carrier-Wi-Fi-Funktionen erforderlich, um die Netze auf zuverlässige Weise an den Anforderungen der Branche auszurichten:

Die WBA wird das Dokument auch an andere Branchenverbände weiterleiten, um ihre Meinung einzuholen und zu erörtern, wie man die Entwicklung von Carrier Wi-Fi und die Arbeiten, die möglicherweise noch geleistet werden müssen, vorantreiben kann.
