IDC's latest quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report reveals the smartphone market in India grew by 229 percent year-over-year in the third quarter of 2013.  There were a total of 12.8 million smartphone shipments, compared to 3.8 million in the third quarter of 2012. Read original Content

According to a new report by GfK, consumers in Southeast Asia spent a total of $10.8 billion on smartphones in the first three quarters of 2013.  Close to 41.5 million smartphones were purchased by users in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines so far this year, with Indonesia showing the highest smartphone sales volume. South Korea's LG has launched its G Flex curved smartphone in key Asian markets.  The company claims the vertically curved design of its G Flex is optimized for the average face, improving voice and sound quality.  The device is expected to launch in Europe early in 2014. Read Original Content

A new report from IDC, "IDC Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) ICT 2014 Top 10 Predictions", projects that information and communications technology spending in the region with grow by around nine percent.  A company spokesman states big data, cloud, mobility and social will have a huge impact on how IT is adopted in 2014. Mobile advertising network InMobi has formed a partnership with mobile game developer CocoaChina to enable app monetization and revenue maximization across its user base.  The InMobi network in China has seen an 84 percent increase in the number of ad impressions across mobile devices from September 2012 to September 2013. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued 4G TD-LTE licenses to China Mobile, China Unicom Hong Kong and China Telecom. Read Original Content

Mobile operators in New Zealand are working together with the New Zealand Telecommunications Forum to launch a "blacklisting" system for lost or stolen mobile devices.  The system gives each operator the ability to block the unique identification code of a stolen mobile device across all three networks:  Vodafone, Telecom and 2degrees. Children's mobile technology company Fingerprint is working with Samsung Electronics to develop a mobile app network for kids.  The network is expected to launch in Southeast Asia in the first quarter of 2014. Read Original Content
