Prepaid Mobile Provider Makes the World Smaller by Enabling Customers to Make International Calls to 70+ Countries for No Extra Charge on All Plans, Starting at $19/month

Ultra MobileTM, a prepaid mobile provider serving international communities across the United States, is setting yet another industry standard and making the world a little smaller by treating a call to the other side of the world the same as a call next door. Beginning tomorrow, Ultra Mobile is giving every customer 1,000 minutes a month of free international calls to more than 70 countries and unlimited SMS texts to more than 190 countries. Every Ultra Mobile plan, which start at $19 a month, will now include this feature, called Ultra Zero, which is disrupting the mobile carrier world and elating customers nationwide.

“We wanted to make an international call just like any other call,” said Chris Furlong, EVP of Ultra Mobile Product Development and Marketing. “It shouldn't require add-ons or calling cards or cost half a month’s rent; it should just be a call. Most of our customers are immigrants who came to America for equality, education and opportunity. If we can indeed make their lives in the United States a little better and the world a little smaller, we are delivering on our mission.”

Ultra Mobile began creating a stir with Ultra Zero in August 2013 by enabling its customers wanting to keep in touch with family and friends abroad to make free calls to Canada, China, Mexico, Singapore, and the United Kingdom for the first 1,000 minutes. The company has now extended Ultra Zero to more than 70 additional countries to include the most popular calling destinations such as India, Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, Nigeria and Vietnam. This means Ultra Mobile customers may now enjoy standard calling to 70% of the world’s population, or 3.3 billion mobile subscribers. Other carriers’ standard calls reach just 300 million US mobile users.

“Ultra Mobile bashed the mobile world in the head again,” began Brian Kleinberg of SIMpro, a national mobile master agent headquartered in the greater New York City area, “and heard the voice of our immigrant customers. For years every other mobile carrier ignored our pleas that customers needed an affordable plan that included international calls and texts. Absolutely no one listened. It took a bold company like Ultra Mobile to create a radical alternative that provides an unbelievable solution that costs just peanuts,” he concluded.

Today, all Ultra Mobile plans include 4G data, unlimited global SMS, 0¢ international calling, international calling credit, Call Me Free, and nationwide talk, giving subscribers the most comprehensive bundle of services offered by any US mobile operator. Ultra Mobile SIMs work on any unlocked GSM device, including iPhones® and Androids®, offering nationwide coverage and eliminate the need for calling cards and global texting add-ons by including international communication as standard on all of its plans.

Furlong added that Ultra Mobile would like to keep extending the country destinations for Ultra Zero, but is challenged by global politics. “We are reaching a point where politics is placing a much larger role than network build-out costs and carrier economics in determining international calling costs. The many other markets that we want to include in Ultra Zero are kept high because national governments use incoming international call tariffs as a source of foreign currency. Nevertheless, we will continue to advocate for fair pricing on behalf of our customers and offer free international texting as an alternative,” said Furlong.
