Mobile Commerce News Weekly – Week of September 15, 2013

The Mobile Commerce News Weekly is an online newsletter made up of the most interesting news, articles and links related to mobile commerce and marketing, mobile payments, mobile money, e-wallets, mobile banking, mobile ads and mobile security that I run across each week.  I am specifically targeting market size and market trend information.

Mobile sales rose by 133 percent year on year in August to £1.6 billion, underlining the huge growth in consumer awareness and confidence in shopping on smartphone and tablet devices.  The figures, from Capgemini consultancy and UK online retail association IMRG, also found that overall online sales rose by 18 percent in August 2013, compared with the same period in 2012.  Read Original Content

After PayPal added new shopping features to its digital wallet, MasterCard added a new service called ShopThis! to its MasterPass wallet. The service, which MasterCard is offering with Intel and PhiSix Fashion Labs, offers online shoppers looking for fashion and clothing items a fully interactive 3D virtual fitting room through Intel’s Virtual Shopping Experience, MasterCard said in a statement.  Read Original Content

A lot of mobile security is about sticking to the basics. That is the gist of the Department of Homeland Security’s “Roll Call Release”.  Their report results practically crowns Apple’s iOS as the reigning security champions. With a miniscule percentage of iOS apps shown to be infected with malware compared to the lion’s share of infected mobile devices belonging to the various, mostly older versions of the Android OS.  Read Original Content

Zapp, a UK mobile commerce company set up by VocaLink, has signed a partnership agreement with WorldPay. The agreement is expected to allow retailers across the UK to support Zapp’s new mobile payments app. Shoppers will be able to use their mobile phones to pay at stores in 2014, The Telegraph reports.  Read Original Content

Vodafone has been working to position itself as a leader in the mobile commerce sector by meeting this demand with its SmartPass platform. The company has recently begun a pilot test for the platform in Auckland, New Zealand, before an international launch later this year.  Read Original Content

Next time you want a double cheeseburger meal from McDonald’s you might be able to pay for it using your mobile phone. The fast-food chain is currently piloting a new program that allows its customers to use a mobile to device to order and pay for a meal.  Read Original Content
