PatientSafe Solutions, a leader in smart point-of-care mobile solutions, today announced that NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has selected the company’s PatientTouch™ platform to enhance patient safety, optimize electronic medical record investment, and increase clinician efficiency and satisfaction.
PatientTouch is a state-of-the-art platform that was developed to minimize harm, reduce waste, and improve productivity by deploying smart, mobile technology tools at the point of patient care. PatientTouch’s dynamic yet intuitive interface enhances patient safety through features such as barcode positive patient identification (PPID) and promotes improved information exchange across physically separated caregiving teams. In addition, PatientTouch helps make individualized care information more easily accessible.
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is rated the #7 best overall hospital in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in its 2012 annual survey. The hospital is the nation’s largest not-for-profit, non-sectarian hospital, with over 2,409 combined beds at five major centers. In addition to the classic suite of PatientTouch applications, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital includes the first use of the platform’s new infant care apps, technologies specifically designed to improve patient safety, quality of care, and administrative efficiency within maternity and neonatal care units.
“We’ve successfully implemented PatientTouch with our medical staff to help improve medication safety and enhance quality delivery,” said Aurelia Boyer, RN, MBA, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. “The mobile tool has been useful in giving our medical team relevant patient data directly at the point-of-care."
According to the Center for Disease Control’s National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, in 2011, more than half of office-based physicians used a partial or full electronic medical record (EMR) system. However, two of the most commonly cited complaints about EMR adoption were clinical workflow disruption and changing regulations that make legacy systems quickly outdated.
“NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is one of the top caregivers in the nation, and its electronic medical records system has made patient data highly organized and quickly accessible,” said Joe Condurso, PatientSafe Solutions’ president and chief executive officer. “PatientTouch is helping leading medical providers such as NewYork-Presbyterian leverage their EMR infrastructure by incorporating innovations that reflect the mobile nature of clinicians. Our solution seeks to optimize the hospital’s EMR investment and achieve compliance with Meaningful Use and emerging quality performance initiatives by facilitating care coordination, enhancing patient safety, and aligning with patient-centric clinical workflow.”
