Alcatel-Lucent Joins Forces with GigaSpaces Cloudify Technology to Accelerate the Delivery of Carrier-Cloud Platform as a Service

GigaSpaces Technologies, a pioneer of cloud enablement platforms for business-critical applications, announced today its joint innovation with Alcatel-Lucent to provide a unique technology backbone for the on-boarding of carrier cloud services.

GigaSpaces Cloudify works with Alcatel-Lucent’s CloudBand™ solution to provide a new class of carrier cloud services that bring the benefits of the cloud to service provider networks and business operations, while also delivering cloud services with the security, reliability, and quality that enterprises and consumers expect.

In this project, Alcatel-Lucent is leveraging Cloudify as a major building block on its carrier-grade Platform-as-a-Service (CPaaS). Moreover, it enables the on-boarding of mission critical applications on a massive scale, including both legacy and new carrier cloud services. “The joint integration between Alcatel-Lucent’s CloudBand solution and Cloudify for the first time makes it possible to meet customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs) by integrating carrier networks and the application,” says Zeev Bikowsky, CEO of GigaSpaces Technologies.

Unlike regular cloud environments, where an application needs to explicitly handle multi-zone deployments, CPaaS allows for the application workload and availability to be handled through a policy driven approach. The policy describes the desired application SLA, while the carrier CPaaS maps the deployment of the application resources to the cloud and reflects the best latency, load, or availability requirements.

The GigaSpaces Alcatel-Lucent integration provides the following benefits:

  • Bringing together applications and the network to create network-aware CPaaS services
  • Easy on-boarding of carrier services to CloudBand improving time-to-market and complying with Network Function Virtualization requirements
  • Making multi-site application deployment simple to address, for latency and location-sensitive applications
  • Allowing service providers to offer services that comply with five-nines reliability, security, and disaster recovery
  • Providing support for application lifecycle on carrier cloud platforms

“Offering CPaaS as part of the CloudBand solution enables service providers to make a smooth migration to the carrier cloud to quickly deploy value-added services with improved quality and scalability without the need for dedicated equipment,” said Dor Skuler, Vice President, General Manager of CloudBand Business Unit at Alcatel-Lucent. “
