Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, today announced that it will deliver the world’s first ATCA video optimization solution based on Intel® technology. The explosive growth in mobile video and proliferation of new smartphones and tablets is driving demand for a cost-effective solution that optimizes video traffic per device for the available bandwidth and screen size. Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) can leverage Radisys’ ATCA Video Optimization Blade to reduce cost per stream by 25% for carrier-grade video optimization. Radisys will be demonstrating the solution at Mobile World Congress, February 25-28 in Barcelona.
“Our new video optimization solution is another example of our continued leadership in delivering powerful ATCA solutions to TEMs, meeting their requirements for lowered costs and accelerated time-to-market,” said Keate Despain, vice president and general manager, Platforms, Radisys. “Radisys’ Video Optimization Blade provides an alternative to current market solutions that are expensive and often proprietary.”
Radisys worked with Intel on the carrier-grade Video Optimization Blade to increase transcoding densities at a lower cost than existing solutions. Radisys took a unique approach to reducing the cost per video session by using six Core i7-3612QE Intel mobile processors on the ATCA blade. This solution provides up to 48 streams of transcoding H.264 at 1080p at 30 frames per second.
“Solutions like Radisys’ Video Optimization Blade help to deliver critical cost savings by providing high density for transcoding per stream and dollar for media framework solutions,” said Stephen Price, General Manager of Intel’s Communications Infrastructure Division. “This Intel® architecture based blade addresses TEMs mobile infrastructure cost and performance challenges and provides optimized video quality experience for the end users.”
Radisys is now offering evaluation units of its Video Optimization Blade. For more information, contact info@radisys.com or +1.800.950.0044.
