DENVER, Feb. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- FORTIS Online has launched a new instant messaging application that lets students and instructors see who's online, allowing them to quickly and easily communicate with each other via chat, voice, web conferencing, and more.
Students also are able to immediately access such resources as career and student services, library resources, and financial aid using this application.
The application is completely integrated into the online environment so students are automatically placed into learning communities with their classmates and instructors. Students, educators, and staff can activate their instant messaging account at no charge through their online classroom.
"We are investing in integrated instant messaging technology to support our online community and promote active engagement among career-focused students through increased access to classmates, instructors, and student service resources. Community and collaboration are key elements of effective online learning and this application supports that," said Alec Winters, Vice President of Online Operations for FORTIS Online.
The instant messaging application was developed by education technology company Blackboard Inc., which partners with institutions to provide innovative mobile solutions that enrich teaching, learning, and life outside the classroom. FORTIS Online also utilizes the company's mobile technology, which allows students to view course content, participate in interactive discussions, check grades, and more, directly from their mobile devices.
