IEEE WCET® Certification Program Examination to be Held 7 April – 4 May 2013

New York, NY, January 19, 2013 --( The IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the leading worldwide professional organization dedicated to the advancement of communications technologies, will hold the next IEEE Wireless Communication Engineering Technologies (IEEE WCET®) Certification Exam from 7 April to 4 May 2013 at Prometric testing centers located worldwide. Eligible candidates are invited to visit to learn about IEEE Wireless Communications Professional® (IEEE WCP) credential benefits and program news, gain access to the latest resource material, and complete registration applications, which are due by 22 March 2013.

The IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), which recently observed its 60th year dedicated to the advance of communications worldwide, developed the IEEE WCET Program to address the international wireless industry’s need for qualified individuals with real-world problem-solving skills. Launched under the guidance of Professional Examination Service (PES), a renowned professional credential developer, as well as international industry experts and experienced wireless practitioners, IEEE WCET has since become recognized worldwide as a vendor-neutral and transnational credential for demonstrating the wireless expertise of communications professionals.

Through a globally based group of dedicated volunteers, the exam and its supported products and services are continuously improved and updated for currency and relevance. This includes the latest advances and developments in the areas of RF engineering, propagation, and antennas; access technologies; network and service architectures; network management and security; facilities infrastructure; agreements, standards, policies, and regulations; and fundamental knowledge.

To qualify for the IEEE WCET designation, candidates with a bachelor’s or comparable degree from an accredited institution and at least three years of professional wireless engineering experience must pass the program’s detailed comprehensive examination. Administered on computer at selected locations, the exam is composed of 150 multiple choice questions with each applicant given up to four hours to complete the exam. The US$500 fee ($450 for IEEE and IEEE ComSoc members) covers the application fee, processing, the “seat fee” for taking the test, scoring and score reporting, and a certificate sent to those who pass the exam. In addition, a 75 question online practice exam is also available for $50 to provide prospective exam takers the opportunity to gauge their preparedness for the official IEEE WCET examination.

Other IEEE WCET resources include the second edition of A Guide to the Wireless Engineering Body of Knowledge (published by John Wiley & Sons), the ultimate reference on wireless technology; in addition to free subscriptions to the bi-monthly IEEE Wireless Communications Professional electronic newsletter and the new 2013 IEEE WCET Candidate Handbook.
