WASHINGTON, Jan. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- While text messaging is often thought of as a quick way to share messages between friends and family, United States Park Police are relying on the medium as a secure way to share real-time information during the upcoming Presidential Inauguration.
By simply texting the word "INAUGURATION" to 888777, residents and visitors will receive relevant event information on their mobile phones, enhancing their experience and ensuring their safety. The service is powered by Nixle, a company whose goal is to help build stronger communities by working with public safety agencies and the residents they serve.
The Inauguration, to be held on Monday, January 21, ushers in a week of festivities that are expected to draw more than half a million people to Washington, DC. "Nixle will help ensure those celebrating the inauguration of the President are kept informed with the most accurate and up-to-date information throughout the day," explains U.S. Park Police Chief Teresa Chambers. By subscribing to Nixle alerts, spectators will receive valuable notifications regarding everything from traffic situations, event schedules, and safety tips right on their cell phones.
Eric Liu, CEO of Nixle, adds, "Nixle's partnership with the United States Park Police signals a new approach to public safety. By connecting agencies and citizens through mobile technology, we can all contribute to ensuring a safe experience."
