REYKJAVIK, ICELAND -- (Marketwire) -- 01/10/13 -- The people of Reykjavik embrace all the seasons for their own special reasons - and winter is no exception. But it lacked summer's artistic flair. So, in true Icelandic style, they just decided to invent a new midwinter festival. Problem solved! Budget airline WOW air invites you to the 11th annual Reykjavik Winter Lights Festival.
Stranded between Christmas and summer, February needs some help to compete with some of the more glamorous months. But Iceland in winter is truly beautiful and while nature sleeps, Reykjavik is as lively as ever. And this will never be truer than during the Winter Lights Festival from 7th-10th February 2013. In Reykjavik at least, one of summer's biggest attractions is its stunning array of festivals, parties and other celebrations. Now February can say the same.
By booking flights to Iceland at this time of year, travellers are able to enjoy significant cost reductions on things like tours and hotels; they will hopefully see some snow; and there's always the chance of seeing the bewitching northern lights dancing across the night sky. A fitting backdrop to the festival, indeed.
The Winter Lights Festival is a large celebration of art and culture with the involvement of literally dozens of different places - like galleries, libraries, shops and museums; but also swimming pools, churches and the city zoo!
The Reykjavik festival always features Museum Night (not to be confused with Night at the Museum), where nigh-on every single museum and gallery in the Icelandic capital is open late into the night and offers free entry to all. This year's festival will also feature Swimming Pool Night, where four of the city's premier swimming spots will stay open until midnight with creativity overflowing. Ever seen an underwater dance show? Or been to a poetry reading in a hot tub? How about attended a new photography exhibition in your swimwear? Well, now you can.
So, for a riot of art, music, light and swimming, be sure to visit Reykjavik early this February. WOW air is ready to help, as always, by consistently offering the cheapest flights to Iceland. See you soon, daahling! www.wowiceland.co.uk.
