CEDARBURG, Wis., Jan. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LS Research (LSR) today announced availability of the BeagleBone Cape with TiWi-BLE™ or TiWi5™, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® 2.1+EDR, Bluetooth low energy (BLE) 4.0, FCC / IC / CE multi-antenna certified modules. Designers can easily and affordably develop Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n or a/b/g/n, Bluetooth®, and Bluetooth low energy (BLE) solutions utilizing these plug-in boards for the widely-adopted BeagleBone Linux computer platform.
Industrial temperature rated -40 C to +85 C and available with options for certified chip or dipole antennas, LSR's TiWi-BLE™ and TiWi5™ modules provide customers the ability to quickly and cost effectively implement dual-band, multi-standard wireless connectivity. Based on Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) WL1271, the TiWi-BLE™ supports consumer wellness, sports and fitness, security and proximity, smart energy, home automation and commercial applications. Alternatively, based on the WL1273, the TiWi5™ is aimed at medical applications, industrial automation, mobile data terminals, and wireless video.
"LSR's strategy is to reduce engineering barriers and accelerate time-to-market for customers adopting our wireless products. A major part of that is simplifying the RF design integration and development process," said Jen Sarto, Vice-President, Sales, LSR. "We're excited to work with Circuitco as they leverage our TiWi-BLE, and TiWi5 modules with the BeagleBone development platform."
The TiWi™ module cape plug-in boards can be plugged into BeagleBone's two 46-pin dual-row expansion headers, providing similar headers so that up to four cape plug-in boards can be stacked at a time. The addition of the TiWi™ module cape plug-in boards to the BeagleBone development kit allows developers to quickly augment the modules capabilities with LCD screens, battery power, and more. The BeagleBone has the I/O and processing power for real-time analysis provided by the Sitara™ AM335x ARM® Cortex™-A8 processor from TI, allowing utilization of the TiWi™ cape plug-in boards to help developers differentiate products and accelerate wireless product development time to market.
BeagleBone developers benefit not only from the BeagleBoard.org community of more than 5,000 active members, but also from LSR's technical support of the TiWi™ modules and availability of turnkey RF design, antenna design, software development, industrial design, in-house EMC certification, and electronic manufacturing services – all aimed at providing customers with full-service options to quickly bring wireless connectivity designs from the drawing board to production.
Availability
BeagleBone Capes with TiWi-BLE™ or TiWi5™ modules are now released to production and available for purchase through CircuitCo distributors. For additional ordering details, please visit www.circuitco.com.
