CARDIFF, Wales, December 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Epitiro, the leader in LTE QoE testing, announces "Mobile Service at the London Games" as its 2012 Mobile Industry Quality Winner. Mobile performance on the Barcelona underground was the runner-up.
The quality criteria
In 2012 Epitiro technology was used to measure mobile quality in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and Australia/New Zealand.
From these various projects and studies around the world, Epitiro sought out industry achievements that delivered an exceptional quality of experience to end users and performed beyond expectations.
The Epitiro 2012 Mobile Industry Quality Winner: Mobile Service at the London Games
Britain's success as host to the international audience that flooded into London to watch the world's best track & field athletes was in part due to the quality of mobile communications service throughout the games. As fears festered about security, road traffic and 'the weather', virtually no concerns were raised about access to mobile services or how well they would perform.
Fans relentlessly uploaded photos, streamed video, made calls and unwittingly loaded the network beyond any previous stress levels - yet each operator had provisioned enough network capacity to provide excellent service levels. Our technology was deployed to areas in and around venues, and monitored quality up to the minute. Except for a brief period when an American news van backed into a portable mobile mast, excellent mobile quality was enjoyed by all.
For the preparation, execution and understated approach in which all mobile operators simply delivered 'gold medal' quality, Epitiro names Mobile Service at the London Games as our 2012 Mobile Industry Quality Winner.
The Epitiro 2012 Mobile Industry Quality Runner-up Winner: Barcelona Metro mobile service
It's estimated that over 20 million hours of productivity are lost each year in cities like London, New York and Paris as underground passengers lose mobile internet connectivity.
Connectivity on a Barcelona underground train is continuous throughout the journey to the stations at either end. Consistent, reliable and omnipresent, the industry commitment to mobile quality 'wherever, whenever' makes the Barcelona Metro our 2012 Mobile Industry Quality Runner-up Winner
Honourable Mention
4G - In the USA, UK and Europe 4G is delivering fast speeds and low latency. How it performs under load as the number of subscribers increase will be the interest in 2013.
