New York, NY, December 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the leading non-profit professional organization dedicated to the advancement of global communications, will demonstrate new technologies for enabling new home E-health business models and “Internet of Things” (IoT) security frameworks at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show to be held January 8 – 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both demonstrations will be on display at the IEEE booth #30242 located in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center and serve as extensions of the 10th annual IEEE Consumer Communications Networking Conference (CCNC) to be held at the Flamingo Las Vegas from January 11 – 14, 2013. IEEE CCNC 2013 will consist of nearly 400 keynotes, panels, workshops, tutorials and technical sessions focused on helping the consumer electronics industry drive on-demand access to entertainment and information technologies anytime, anywhere, regardless of time or location. This includes detailed analyses of communications ranging from cognitive and peer-to-peer networking to the designer services and tools used to ensure ease-of-use, security and stunning interactivity.
As an introduction to IEEE CCNC, visitors to the IEEE ComSoc booth at CES 2013 will receive a demonstration on "Enabling new e-health business models by converging IP-based and non-IP-based home networks" from Frank den Hartog of the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Designed to overcome the challenges produced by user-centric content energy management, education and e-health services operating with non-IP communication infrastructures, this demonstration will show how non-IP supporting Continua-certified health devices, such as weighing scales, can be unlocked by Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) systems for use by other devices and services in the home.
In the second demo performed at the IEEE booth on January 11, Pascal Urien at Telecom ParisTech & EtherTrust will showcase "LLCPS: A New Security Framework Based On TLS For NFC P2P Applications In The Internet Of Things." Although NFC (Near Field Communication) has shown promising results for enabling proximity communications in payment, access control, transport or file transfer applications, it does not support a security framework. This demonstration presents Peer-to-Peer (P2P) transactions protected by a new protocol, LLCPS, i.e. the Logical Link Control protocol (LLCP) secured by TLS and its potential for enabling a wide range of IoT services.
In addition, IEEE CCNC 2013 will officially commence on Friday, January 11 with the first of four full days dedicated to the latest developments and technical solutions in the areas of home networking, consumer networking, enabling technologies (such as middleware) and novel services. Among these presentations will be the keynote addresses of industry experts such as:
• Donald L. Schilling, Chairman of LINEX Technologies, who will speak about his "Vision of Wireless Consumer Communications" and the development of “Wireless Cities,” where people will use just one phone or hand-held computer to enable nearly every form of electronic communication in real time
• Kilsu Eo, Senior Vice President, Samsung and leader of the company’s Convergence Solution Team at the Software R&D Center and User Experience Center at the DMC R&D Center, where he is responsible for developing cloud server/services, data analytics, web-centric solutions, and convergence platforms and ecosystems designed to advance the every day use of consumer electronic devices, future cars and health care devices
• I.P. Park, Executive Vice President and CTO at HARMAN International, who is currently overseeing the company’s automotive infotainment, consumer and professional audio system R&D activities
Other conference highlights include the conference’s January 14 tutorial program, which will cover topics like “Advances in Home Networking Standardization and Related Research Opportunities,” “Emerging Technologies for Future Tele-Communication,” “Erasure Coding Meets Three Screens and the Cloud,” “MirrorLink™ and Co – Connecting Your Smart Phone to Your Car” and “Vehicular Networking: Applications, Standards, Protocols, Deployment Plans and Open Issues.”
Furthermore, all IEEE CCNC 2013 registrants are urged to Join the Mobile Code Jam Challenge and take advantage of the opportunity to win cash prizes by developing Windows Phone applications and/or scripts by the entry deadline of December 14, 2012. For more details or to register for the Project Hawaii or TouchDevelop Mobile Phone Jams, please visit http://www.ieee-ccnc.org/2013/challenge.html. Each of the finalists in each category will be introduced at IEEE CCNC 2013.
Hosted by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the primary mission of IEEE CCNC 2013 is to provide researchers, developers, and academia from around the world with an open, informative environment that fosters new technological innovations within the consumer electronics industry.
