ASHAWAY, RI -- (Marketwire) -- 11/29/12 -- GreenBytes®, Inc., a developer of cloud-scale IO-offload solutions that enable organizations to meet desktop virtualization performance requirements using their existing architecture, today announced that Chairman Steve O'Donnell has been named Chief Executive Officer. O'Donnell, who will continue to serve as Chairman of the GreenBytes Board of Directors, will lead the executive management team and drive strategic business efforts that will enable the company to shape the desktop virtualization market with its IO Offload Engine, a high-performance network infrastructure device purpose-built to absorb the transient IO (input/output) required for VM (virtual machine) booting, rapid provisioning and swap to provide an excellent virtual desktop user experience at an affordable cost.
Before joining GreenBytes, O'Donnell was CEO at MEEZA in Qatar, a large data center and managed services business, Managing Director at Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) EMEA, a leading analyst firm, Global Head of Data Centre Operations at British Telecom, and member of the Advisory Board at Fusion-io. Recognized as an expert in green IT and sustainability, O'Donnell has been the recipient of six industry awards including the British Computer Society Best Use of Green Technology. He acts as a spokesperson for the IEEE on Cloud and IT Security. O'Donnell is the author of "What Every CIO Wants - a Guide for High Technology Salespeople" and is credited as the initiator of the Green Grid's Data Center Maturity Model.
Back in August, GreenBytes announced the IO Offload Engine, a purpose-built, cloud-scale desktop virtualization solution that enables organizations to reliably and cost-effectively meet demanding virtualization performance requirements using their existing storage architecture. With an increasing number of customer deployments throughout North America and Europe, O'Donnell will work closely with newly appointed Senior Vice President, Global Sales, Brett Johnson, in ramping up global sales efforts and strategic partnerships.
Earlier this year, GreenBytes received $12 Million in Series B funding in a round led by London-based Generation Investment Management LLP, along with participation from Battery Ventures and GreenBytes management. The company also recently announced the expansion of its business operations in Europe with the growth of its team in London and the opening of an office in Amsterdam, adding key engineering, sales and marketing personnel.
