Boingo Wireless, Inc. (NASDAQ: WIFI), the Wi-Fi industry’s leading provider of software and services worldwide, today announced a network access agreement with leading Brazilian wireless service provider Linktel Corporate.
The multi-year agreement will give Boingo customers access to more than 1,400 additional hotspots throughout Brazil, bringing the total number of Boingo hotspots in the country to nearly 3,000. The Linktel network of hotspots includes leading hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, airports, entertainment destinations, and many other popular consumer venues. The hotspots will be available to Boingo customers by the end of the year.
“International business and leisure travel to Brazil is increasing, and this will help our customers connect at key destinations throughout Brazil,” said Luis Serrano, senior vice president of business and corporate development for Boingo Wireless. “Our globe-trotting customers now have 1,400 more reasons to like Boingo in their quest to stay connected and avoid international data roaming charges.”
Boingo’s roaming and platform service partners will also have access to the Linktel hotspots as part of the agreement. Boingo’s wholesale partners, which provide self-branded Wi-Fi to their customers as part of their service offering, include Orange France, TeliaSonera, Skype, LGU+, Korea Telecom, and Verizon.
Linktel customers will also gain access to Boingo’s managed and operated Wi-Fi hotspots in the United States, which include networks at more than 30 U.S. airports, including airports serving top Brazilian business and leisure travel destinations, like New York’s John F. Boingo managed and operated Wi-Fi services are also accessible at leading shopping malls, stadiums and arenas and quick service restaurants nationwide.
“The U.S. is the number one destination for Brazilian travelers today, and Boingo is the number one provider of Wi-Fi in United States airports,” said Jonas Trunk, president of Linktel Corporate. “Our partnership with Boingo will make it easy and affordable for our customers to stay connected and share their experiences as they travel throughout the U.S.”
