Voxbone Network’s Superb Voice Quality Enables Lexifone to Launch Automated Phone-Translation Service

Companies Combine Talents to Deliver Real-Time Language Interpretation

BRUSSELS - July 31, 2012 - Voxbone today announced it is enabling Lexifone to launch a real-time language-translation service that combines Lexifone's innovative automated phone-interpreter technology with the superb clarity of Voxbone's voice services.

The new Lexifone service, aimed at consumers and businesses, allows each party in a telephone call to speak and be heard in his or her chosen language. It is being launched worldwide after availability to selected users in closed beta trials for the past five months.

Lexifone is a service, not an app, that may be used on any phone - landline, mobile or VoIP - without an Internet connection or software download. To reach Lexifone's translation bridge, users simply dial local telephone numbers that Voxbone will make available in more than 50 countries, then select the languages and the numbers of the people they want to call in 120 countries. Lexifone translates the caller's spoken language, such as French, into the language the called party can understand, such as German, and vice versa.

The Lexifone automated phone-interpreter service, which currently accommodates translations into seven languages and 15 dialects, relies on Voxbone's access numbers and all-IP network.

"The caller's connection to our language-translation platform must be crystal-clear because sound quality is crucial for accurate voice recognition," said Lexifone CEO and founder Dr. Ike Sagie. "We selected Voxbone for its ability to provide that clarity, as well as its global coverage, flexibility and technological expertise. Voxbone's extensive relationships with telecom providers will save us time and money. We'll also benefit from Voxbone's experience working with voice application providers."

"We are pleased to be collaborating with Lexifone to help it apply the latest developments in voice recognition and real-time translation," said Voxbone CEO Rod Ullens. "As this relationship illustrates, language translation is an attractive service offering that exploits the power and versatility of Voxbone's all-IP connections around the world."

Languages supported at Lexifone's launch include French, Spanish, Mandarin, English, Portuguese, German and Italian. Translation capabilities for other languages like Russian, Japanese and Korean are under development.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
