Kindsight Unveils Security Platform to Boost Mobile Operator Security Services

Kindsight Mobile Security Combines Device and Network-Based Security for Complete Protection

BARCELONA, SPAIN -- (Marketwire) -- 02/27/12 -- MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS -- Kindsight, a provider of network-based security and analytics solutions, today introduced Kindsight Mobile Security to provide protection for mobile networks and devices. The new offering combines network-based malware detection with a mobile device security app that scans for malicious software before it can be installed. With Kindsight Mobile Security, mobile operators are able to offer a value-added security service that more fully protects their subscribers, while giving them the opportunity to increase revenues and reduce churn.

"Generally, there's a lack of awareness by consumers on mobile security issues," said Deborah Kish, principal research analyst at Gartner. "Consumers will download apps without scanning for malware or even checking where they come from, which can put their device and even personal data at risk. Mobile operators need to raise awareness of these security issues and leverage their unique position in the network to provide complete security solutions to their subscribers."

Built on the Kindsight Security Services solution, the new offering analyzes both mobile Internet traffic and scans the device for malware. Kindsight Mobile Security combines the company's Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS-8800) and Alert Reporting Cluster (ARC) platforms with a lightweight and easy-to-use Mobile Security App to provide complete protection. With this approach, Kindsight Mobile Security can detect threats both in the network and on the device to quickly alert the subscriber of the threat and to help them remove the malicious app.

"Last quarter, our Security Labs measured a 400 percent increase in Android malware, so it's obvious that a mobile security offering is needed," said Brendan Ziolo, VP, Marketing, Kindsight. "It's very easy for cybercriminals to repackage their malware to avoid detection by anti-virus apps. That's why it's essential to combine network-based malware detection with a mobile security app to provide an additional layer of protection against mobile malware."

Mobile operators are in a unique position to leverage their network and offer a client and network-based security solution to their subscribers. As a value-added service, mobile operators can generate new and recurring revenue through this mobile security service by offering it for a monthly fee, bundling it to upsell other services, or at no-cost through relevant advertising. At the same time, by detecting and removing malware from the network, operators can reduce churn by improving the service experience and decreasing unexpected data charges.

Kindsight will be demonstrating the new Mobile Security solution at Mobile World Congress, from February 27 - March 1, in the Alcatel-Lucent booth (Hall 6 - booth # 6C23). To schedule a demonstration, please contact [email protected].

Kevin McNamee, security architect and director, will also provide private demonstrations of the solution during the RSA Conference and Security B-Sides (February 27 - March 1) in San Francisco. To schedule a demonstration, please contact [email protected].

The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications. Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers. It was one of the first and best-known examples of projects that make containers truly useful for production use. However, more recently, the container ecosystem has truly exploded. Poor data quality and analytics drive down business value. In fact, Gartner estimated that the average financial impact of poor data quality on organizations is $9.7 million per year. But bad data is much more than a cost center. By eroding trust in information, analytics and the business decisions based on these, it is a serious impediment to digital transformation.
