Proof Point for Information Worker Vision

More users are shifting their computing workload to their mobile devices instead of their laptops

At the start of October I wrote a 'story of problems overcome', which set the case for a field worker and how Converged Mobile Devices or Smartphones could be used to solve problems in productivity and much more.

This was my vision of the Information Worker and I was happy to see an interesting article from Ryan Kim at the SF Chronicle on how more users are shifting their computing workload to their mobile devices instead of their laptops.

iPhone Information WorkerOf course, this doesn’t mean they ditch their computers entirely,  but the rise of smartphone usage is drastically changing the way people tackle daily tasks. Kim also cites a lot of recent research including:

  • In-Stat survey found that 35% of smartphone users turn to mobile devices rather than booting up their desktop/laptop.
  • IDC analyst Richard Shim notes that PC sales have remained steady, however smartphones are growing at a faster pace with IDC predicting sales to go from 151.6 million in 2008 to 334.2 million units in 2013.

It’s a perfect proof point for my vision of the new Information Worker.

Great minds etc :-D
