Synapse Registers 500th SNAP(R) User

Accelerating Growth of SNAP, an Internet-Enabled Mesh Network Standard

HUNTSVILLE, AL -- (Marketwire) -- 09/17/09 -- After announcing revenue doubling in the previous two quarters, Synapse Wireless®, the leader in Internet-enabled, wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, today announced it has passed the 500th registered SNAP user milestone. SNAP is an auto-forming, multi-hop, mesh network, software solution that "works as advertised" according to Tom Cantrell of Circuit Cellar magazine.

"The simplicity of SNAP may mean that the promise of 802.15.4 can finally be realized. You no longer have to be a network expert to make use of wireless technology, and can develop an application in a matter of days," said Tom Starnes, Processor Analyst, Objective Analysis.

SNAP customers are getting their wireless products out the door many times faster than their competitors while also enjoying a cost advantage.

International initiatives like Smart Grid, which seek to modernize electric utilities, will look to standards like SNAP to support the rapid deployment of a reliable overlay of wireless digital communication. Synapse SNAP is proving to be the solution for these and many other applications, such as medical, asset management and industrial automation.

SNAP is the industry's only solution that was designed from the ground up for seamless connection to the Internet. "What's really cool about Synapse's SNAPconnect is not only that it brings the Internet to this realm, but that it makes it 'easy' for application developers. That's why we designated it as a best new product," said Jason McDonald, Senior Editor, eg3.com.

A concern for many companies is getting locked into a sole source for hardware. "Not so with SNAP," explains Tom Cantrell. "...interestingly (and, I'd say, wisely) they're more than willing to get SNAP up and running on other vendors' hardware." SNAP-based products from Panasonic, California Eastern Laboratories (CEL) and Synapse's own Freescale-based modules can all reside on the same, interoperable SNAP network and communicate seamlessly. "We are very excited about our collaboration with Synapse as we believe SNAP is the best software standard for Personal Area Networks," said Richard Trueman, Senior Product Manager, Panasonic Industrial Company.

Now over 500 registered SNAP users have formed an interactive community at the Synapse SNAP Forum (http://forums.synapse-wireless.com). The Forum provides a global, 24/7 home for answers to technical questions and a growing library of complete, open source code for commonly used routines. Sample applications, such as battery monitoring, interfacing into GPS systems and keypads, multi-drop serial applications and more are accessible without cost.

Personalization has long been the holy grail of marketing. Simply stated, communicate the most relevant offer to the right person and you will increase sales. To achieve this, you must understand the individual. Consequently, digital marketers developed many ways to gather and leverage customer information to deliver targeted experiences. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Lou Casal, Founder and Principal Consultant at Practicala, discussed how the Internet of Things (IoT) has accelerated our abilit...
When shopping for a new data processing platform for IoT solutions, many development teams want to be able to test-drive options before making a choice. Yet when evaluating an IoT solution, it’s simply not feasible to do so at scale with physical devices. Building a sensor simulator is the next best choice; however, generating a realistic simulation at very high TPS with ease of configurability is a formidable challenge. When dealing with multiple application or transport protocols, you would be...
Data is the fuel that drives the machine learning algorithmic engines and ultimately provides the business value. In his session at Cloud Expo, Ed Featherston, a director and senior enterprise architect at Collaborative Consulting, discussed the key considerations around quality, volume, timeliness, and pedigree that must be dealt with in order to properly fuel that engine.
Detecting internal user threats in the Big Data eco-system is challenging and cumbersome. Many organizations monitor internal usage of the Big Data eco-system using a set of alerts. This is not a scalable process given the increase in the number of alerts with the accelerating growth in data volume and user base. Organizations are increasingly leveraging machine learning to monitor only those data elements that are sensitive and critical, autonomously establish monitoring policies, and to detect...

IoT solutions exploit operational data generated by Internet-connected smart “things” for the purpose of gaining operational insight and producing “better outcomes” (for example, create new business models, eliminate unscheduled maintenance, etc.). The explosive proliferation of IoT solutions will result in an exponential growth in the volume of IoT data, precipitating significant Information Governance issues: who owns the IoT data, what are the rights/duties of IoT solutions adopters towards t...

Organizations planning enterprise data center consolidation and modernization projects are faced with a challenging, costly reality. Requirements to deploy modern, cloud-native applications simultaneously with traditional client/server applications are almost impossible to achieve with hardware-centric enterprise infrastructure. Compute and network infrastructure are fast moving down a software-defined path, but storage has been a laggard. Until now.
