JDSU Expands Video Test Solution Offering for Microsoft Mediaroom Customers

Addition of Home Performance Monitoring Improves Quality of Television and Video Services over Broadband IP Networks

MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU; and TSX: JDU) today announced it has extended its offering of communications test and measurement solutions used in support of Microsoft's Mediaroom platform for IPTV services. JDSU test solutions to ensure a high quality of Mediaroom-based services now also include NetComplete Home Performance Monitoring (PM), part of JDSU's industry-leading service assurance system.

NetComplete Home PM gives operators full performance management visibility from a central location into the actual experience of broadband, voice, video/IPTV and video on demand (VOD) services in a home environment to proactively pinpoint, isolate and resolve issues that might impact service quality of experience (QoE) for consumers.

Microsoft Mediaroom, an award-winning platform licensed to network operators to enable delivery of the latest connected TV services to consumers around the globe, is in use by nearly 3.5 million subscribers and offered by many of the world's leading telecom providers.

JDSU will be exhibiting its portfolio of test solutions and services at Broadband World Forum 2009 in France, September 7-9, booth # 621.

"JDSU is proud to place its leading test and measurement solutions front-and-center for operators, including many of our customers, delivering Microsoft Mediaroom - a leading software platform revolutionizing the way consumers experience advanced IPTV features and applications," said Tom Smith, vice president and general manager, Solutions Division, JDSU Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "JDSU's NetComplete Home Performance Monitoring, and IP/broadband-based solutions, are proven to help ensure quality of service and quality of experience for IPTV deployment and other emerging broadband voice, video and data services."

"JDSU test solutions are a natural fit for the Microsoft Mediaroom platform," said Dan McCrary, director of partners and business development for Microsoft. "JDSU's ability to give an in-depth, end-to-end view of service performance all the way into the home will help ensure the quality of Mediaroom's multi-featured IPTV functions and services."

In addition, JDSU NetComplete Home PM allows Mediaroom customers to enjoy the benefit of reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) by reducing repeat rates, reducing mean-time-to repair (MTTR) and improving customer care support activities with better access to in-home performance data.

Deployed by operators around the world for IPTV/digital video and mobile Ethernet backhaul, JDSU's NetComplete won the 2008 Product of the Year award from INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine, a leading trade publication to the IP/broadband industry, and is a finalist for Cable & Satellite International's 2009 award for Best Monitoring or Network Management Solution.

The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, compared the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, examin...
