The Real Time Infrastructure Ultimatum

As virtualization entered the data center it became an accidental standard bearer for network automation. The power of virtualization helped to drive a cultural (including x as a service) shift in expectations, just as Nicholas Carr was declaring war on traditional “old world” IT with the help of Google, Amazon and a host of other cloud (and not so cloud) players.

Combining Twitter With Site Monitoring

When Google's Gmail is down, thousands complain on Twitter. If Amazon has problems with its cloud services, you hear about it on Twitter. If a web hosting company has issues, you hear about it on Twitter. Twitter has given consumers a voice, and companies are listening. In other words, Twitter has become a discovery engine for service issues. But only if people effectively let the world know about those issues in the first place. Pingdom, a service that monitors the reliability of websites and services on the Internet, has now made it possible to automate this process. Pingdom users can choose to automatically send Twitter status messages when their monitored sites have downtime, notifying not just themselves, but the world.

LTE - The Rise of the Mobile Prosumer

Such consumer & technology transformation has distorted the way 'Prosumer' consume their products & services, and interact with their mobile devices. The industry awaits to see if Asia’s Top Telecom guns can decide on a unified approach to map revenue streams back to the operators. The average handset has evolved from the humble voice-box, to the total media centre. As a result thousands of start-up companies are profiting out of the Telecom sector's advances, supplying the various add-ons which inevitably accompany any new wave of technology.

Riding the Mobile Revolution

Whether or not they know it, most hotels already have a presence on the mobile Web. Potential guests who pull up hotel Web sites on their cell phones often find poor displays and usability rather than a site specifically designed to meet their needs -- and convert them to bookings.

Hotel Interactive asked Ran Farmer, MD Netbiscuits Inc., how Netbiscuits can help the travel industry optimize mobile sites for maximum revenue.

Network-Centric Mobile Field Force Automation

This article explores the use of geospatial information to provide a network-centric view of the mobile work place and the real-time location of your mobile assets. USAF Colonel John Boyd is credited with the concept of the OODA loop. The OODA loop (Observe, Orient, Decide and Act) is a concept originally applied to the combat operation processes often at the strategic level. It is now also often applied to understand commercial operations and learning processes. It has become an important concept in both business and military strategy. According to Boyd, decision-making occurs in a recurring cycle of observe-orient-decide-act. An entity (whether an individual or an organization) that can process this cycle quickly, observing and reacting to unfolding events more rapidly than an opponent, can thereby "get inside" the opponent's decision cycle and gain the advantage.
